국회 연구모임 ‘장애아이 We Can'의 회장인 한나라당 나경원 의원이 23일 국회 의원회관 대회의실에서 장애아이들을 위한 크리스마스 대축제를 개최했다.

나경원 의원실에 따르면 ‘산타의 작은 선물’이라는 주제로 진행된 이번 행사는 지난 2004년에 시작, 5회째를 맞이했으며 장애아이들에게 색다른 문화체험을 제공해 큰 호응을 얻었다.

이날 행사에는 전국 약 500여명의 장애아이들과 부모들을 비롯해 김형오 국회의장 및 한나라당 박희태 대표, 장애아이 We Can 회원인 여야 의원들이 대거 참석했다.

행사에서는 산타와 즉석사진 찍기를 식전행사로 시작, 장애아이를 솔선수범해 도와준 친구를 선정하는 ‘굿 프렌드상’ 시상식이 있었다.

이어 동방신기 등 유명 연예인들이 보낸 크리스마스 영상 메시지와 인기 가수들의 공연이 이어졌다.

나경원 의원은 “이 행사를 통해 장애아이들과 부모님들이 희망과 용기를 갖게 되기를 기원한다”며 “새 정부는 장애인이 우리 사회 구성원으로서 당당히 살아갈 수 있는 여건을 마련하는 정책을 지속적으로 펼쳐 나가겠다”고 말했다.
